Greetings comic book lovers! Are you ready for your next exciting reading experience? I Hate This Place #1 is currently available to read for free right here on Skybound Insiders. This makes it the perfect time to sample writer Kyle Sparks and artist Artyom Topilin’s supernatural horror epic. If you still need convincing, here are 5 reasons to check out I Hate This Place #1

1 – Paranormal Fun

1 – Paranormal Fun

If you’re into chilling paranormal stories, then I Hate This Place will be your next obsession. A young couple named Trudy and Gabby inherit a farmhouse, but they soon discover the local critters aren’t the only residents. Ghosts, undead corpses, aliens, and other supernatural entities stalk the property, and the only way to survive is to obey the house’s unusual “rules.” Why does the farmhouse attract these creatures, and is there any hope of stopping them? Gabby and Trudy had better find these answers quick if they hope to survive!

2 – Trudy and Gabby Are Couples Goals

2 – Trudy and Gabby Are Couples Goals

A horror story doesn’t work unless you have good protagonists. I Hate This Place doesn’t have that problem. You will fall in love with Trudy and Gabby from the moment you meet them. Trudy is a pragmatist who overprepares for EVERYTHING, including the end of the world. Gabby is a free spirit who believes in fate and magic. Their worldviews don’t entirely match up, but that’s what makes them a fun couple.

For example, after one night of dodging the undead, Trudy wisely says they won’t be spending another night in the farmhouse. Gabby counters by reminding her they need to get money, after which they can deal with the small ghost problem. The banter between the couple is as amusing as it is big-hearted.

3 – The Creative Team

3 – Talented Creative Team

I Hate This Place is written by Kyle Sparks and illustrated by Artyom Topilin. The creative duo fires on all cylinders from the first page. Sparks’ script is full of mystery, horror, and even a bit of dark humor. His story will keep you hooked as you learn more about the mystery surrounding the farmhouse. Topilin’s artwork sets the mood perfectly. Just look at the way he illustrates the zombies and the mysterious “horned man.” The way Gabby looked after the ghost grabbed her is going to stay in my nightmares for some time. Is it any wonder I Hate This Place was nominated for a 2023 Eisner Award?

4 – Grotesque Body Horror

If you’re into gratuitous violence and grizzly body horror, then you will love the grotesque imagery in I Hate This Place. Artyom Topilin understood the assignment, illustrating some memorable images that bring our nightmares to life. Just look at the above image of the decomposing corpse from the first issue. We also get exploding brain matter in issue 1! When it comes blood and gore, Skybound has never been afraid to push the limit, and I Hate This Place continues the tradition.

5 – It’s Free!

5 – It’s Free!

If all that wasn’t enough for you, then this is a good time to remind you that I Hate This Place #1 is ABSOLUTELY FREE TO READ NOW! Why have we made the entire first issue available for free?
